LHS’s EMT Class Goes Beyond Curriculum Standards

Mr. Jeremy Torres, NRP, NAEMSE, LBEMS, instructor of the Emergency Medical Technician class at Livonia High School, believes his students should not only know and exhibit mastery of the curriculum he teaches, but they should also live out the curriculum in their day to day activities. As the school year approaches the second semester, EMT students are embracing the community outreach and public education components of their intense curriculum. The students felt inclined to reach out in the Livonia community during the holiday season. After discussing their interest and willingness to help, the students received the names of a few members of the elderly community from Livonia Police Chief Brad Joffrion. “The students truly took to the message in this component of our course and developed a student directed drive for these senior citizens,” remarked Mr. Torres. “They became totally engrossed in the idea of promoting the donation drive and setting it up around the campus. They have been so eager to make the pick up of donations and then to turn around and deliver the goods to those in the community.”

The administration and staff of Livonia High commends the EMT Class for truly keeping the spirit of the season alive. Livonia High School is committed to providing a safe learning environment where students achieve academic success and become productive contributors of a diverse community.
